Xinzheng to Built National Ancient Jujube Woods Park

　　Recently, with the formal approval of Henan Provincial Department of Forestry, Xinzheng City was approved to build the National Ancient Jujube Woods Park. Once built, the park will become the only forest park with ancient jujube trees as the main species throughout the country.By then, the ancient jujube trees existing more than a century would be effectively protected in Xinzheng.

　　Xinzheng is the hometown of jujube,whose cultivation history can be traced back to 8000 years ago in Peiligang culture period. At present, Xinzheng is the county (city) which has the largest number of jujube trees. Most of the trees are preserved in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and they are the symbol of history and culture in Xinzheng. They are green cultural relics as well as live fossils. Therefore, they have great value in the aspects of economy, history, culture and scientific research.

　　According to the general survey on old tree and famous wood species in 2017, there are 56 ancient clusters of jujube trees in Xinzheng City. Except the Yellow Emperor’s Native Place Scenic Spot, the other 55 are distributed in four townships, namely Mengzhuang, Xuedian, Xincun and Hezhuang, covering ​​about 35,000 acres with a total number of 401,977 .

　　In recent years, Xinzheng City has done a variety of works in jujube protection , such as the implementation of listing protection, the development of policy protection, legal enforcement protection and technical protection. The forestry department has conducted research on jujube tree pests and diseases. Recently, the focus has been put on the management of jujube broom disease and initial achievements have been made in governance.
